Biography

Sally Jeanne Watkins is thrilled to return to her hometown of Seattle and join the Coaching Staff at the Kraken Skating Academy. Watkins has over 15 years of coaching experience in freestyle and skating skills. She specializes in preparing athletes and optimizing programs for the International Judging System. Athletes under her tutelage have passed through Senior Free Skate, as well as qualified for and competed in State Games of America, the Excel National Final, and the Eastern Sectional Singles Final.

Watkins’ mission as a coach is to instill in her athletes an understanding of what they can and cannot control and to see “success” as “when preparation meets opportunity.” Such a perspective helps her athletes develop their own self-motivation and vision of success — important life skills that translate into their post-skating careers.

Watkins is a U.S. Figure Skating (USFS) Compliant Coach and is a US Figure Skating Regional Technical Specialist. As an athlete, Watkins is a U.S. Figure Skating Triple Gold Medalist and is the 2008 Intercollegiate National Senior Ladies Champion. She skated professionally for more than ten years, first as a principal performer for Bietak Productions on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, and then with Ice Theatre of New York. Watkins earned her Bachelors degrees in Engineering-Physics and Chemistry from Miami University and her Masters in Environmental Engineering from NYU.
